The designs on this page have been released under a creative commons license, meaning that they can be used and copied by anyone. They are inspired by the open source software movement where software is designed and developed collaboratively over the internet. The development of digital manufacturing technologies such as cnc routers and rapid prototypers will allow designers and manufacturers to share files and collaborate over designs that have minimal impact on the environment. The aim is to build up a repository of eco- products that can be made on low cost digital machines, similar to the one shown here, stimulating local markets and communities, and reducing transport emissions.
